Limitations of the automatic parking assist function
Automatic parking assist cannot be used if a tow bar is installed on the car or if the side mirrors are folded. It can also not be used if the hood, trunk, or any of the doors are open. User interference, such as moving the steering wheel, accelerating, or shifting gears, will abort the automatic parking assist. If automatic parking assist is aborted, there will be a message on the driver display explaining why. Oncoming traffic from the rear or the front of the car can abort automatic parking assist or prevent it from being started.
Many unforeseeable situations can negatively affect the automatic parking assist function. Always be ready to take control of the car. The automatic parking assist system relies on the sensors and cameras around the car. See Limitations of the driver assistance system sensors for more information on sensor and camera limitations. Visibility can be negatively affected by low ambient light, or a low brightness setting on the center display during strong sunlight.
Conditions that might limit the automatic parking assist function include:
|
• |
Unclear or otherwise obstructed parking space markings. |
|
• |
The parking space or the street is too narrow. |
|
• |
Uneven or irregular road surface. |
|
• |
The car is on a slope steeper than 8%. |
|
• |
Road surface height differences. Do not use the function near cliffs, on high platforms, or on a sidewalk facing the street. |
|
• |
Not all obstacles can be identified. For example, obstacles that are too small, narrow, short, irregular, or above/below the sensors. Potholes, wire meshes and fences, snow, ropes, and other objects can be difficult or impossible to identify. Obstacles that can sometimes be identified, might not be identified other times. The driver must personally make sure that the parking space is free from obstacles. |
|
• |
Some curbs can be harder to detect than others, such as curbs not made of stone. |
|
• |
The system might not notice a vehicle or other object approaching from the side in time to respond. |
Note: An obstacle refers to any physical object, person, or animal around the car.
